I have been trying to go all healthy since the start of the year. I have failed so far
My blood pressure is too high and my cholesterol too.
But working in newspapers it’s hard to stay healthy.
If you attend an opening night of a play there’s drink; if you go to a press launch there’s booze. You can’t win (hic!).
And my diet is dreadful.
I simply don't look after myself enough probably due to living alone and not having the love of a good woman or bad woman for that matter.
Granted, one should have the will power to just drink orange juice or mineral water but the spirit in this case is weak.
But I am determined to start afresh come March 1.
I have started eating oily fish such as mackerel and sardines.
I have made too many excuses this year.
My birthday for one; 50 years of the Cavern party another and the opening of the Mal Maision hotel (still recovering from the excellent hospitality and excess champers).
But I do like to celebrate - time to grow up I think.
Happily, I am now booked into a spa health centre and I want to come out a brand new man.
I recently watched myself on a TV interview and I saw it on a state-of-the-art wide screen TV.
I didn’t like the person looking back at me – the close up camera picked up every blemish and blotch.
And I know TV adds pounds to the face and body . . . but I just wasn’t happy with the image.
I shall give a full report when I emerge from the Spa - hopefully looking like Brad Pitt. At the moment I look like the pits.
PS People have asked me where my painting is in the Anthony Brown’s: 100 Heads Thinking as One.
It is currently being tinkered with as the original was, for me, just too moving and personal which is the point of Anthony’s work.
But he understood when I asked for some bits from my past to be removed.
Anyway, I shall be touched up in time for the display at the Metropolitan Cathedral next month.
I am proud to be part of it along with my colleagues Eddie Barford and Dave Charters.
If you catch the show let me know what you think.

Pleased to hear that you are going to a spa.We hope you do not come out looking like Brad Pitt!
It is important Peter to start the day with breakfast, even if it is just a piece of toast. This starts the metabolism which is important in the breakdown of fats.Keeping to oily fish, lots of salads, vegetables and baked potatoes. If you do slip and eat a sticky toffee pudding have a moderate portion.
Regarding the alcohol, cutting out the Guinness would be a good idea!Cutting down to four bottles of wine a day would also help!
Enjoy the spa and who knows you may just meet a beautiful women there.
